Pakistan 2009 - Part 1 - From Askole, following Biafo glacier, to Marpogoro camp

Nanga Parbat as seen from Islamabad-Skardu flight. If you have luck to get on the flight (costs about 50 usd only, saves 20hrs by bus) and the weather is good you can see all Karakoram and Hindukush ....

Skardu airport. PIA operates this flight in good visibility only and tends to move all people from non-realized flights to the next flight and people from the next flight to the other following flight etc. .... very bad habit!

Between Namla and Mango campsites, glacier still broken with a lot of stones and no path

Mango campsite is at the side of the glacier, we camp right on the stones to save time going there and back

Glacier becomes open and without so much stones above Mango campsite

Above Mango campsite, with our porters. We went with porters up to Baintha. They took the load up to Karpogoro campsite (day 5 of 18 days) - the last place where they can go without rope. We took one porter per person so about 35kg of initial load per person was divided equally  between us and porters. All of us were using porters for the first time in mountains, here due to various knee/ankle problems we had before the trek.

Crossing from the middle of Biafo glacier to Baintha campsite - too late, best to cross earlier at the the level of Shafung campsite and good grass trail then goes up to Baintha.

Marpogoro campsite, not so green as famous Baintha, but more importantly - with a lot of water both in the evening and in the morning!
